Kampot Pepper Promotion Association (KPPA) was registered at Ministry of Interior No. 293 on December 12, 2008. The main purpose of KPPA is brings together producers of Kampot Pepper, refining companies, and direct marketers.
Concretely, this means that the name “Kampot Pepper” cannot be used without the prior consent of the association, which conducts inspections to verify the origin of the pepper and also the compliance with the specifications of the Kampot Pepper.
A geographical indication (GI) is a sign which used on goods that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities, reputation or characteristics that are essentially attributable to that origin. An appellation of origin (AO) is a special kind of (GI). Therefore, Kampot pepper has been registered and protected by the Department of Intellectual Property under the Ministry of Commerce (MOC).
A geographical indication designates and protects a product coming from a specific geographical area and which particular quality, reputation or other characteristics can be lined directly with this geographical origin
The conformity of the product from the plantation to the final packaged product with the origin and the book of specification is controlled using a traceability system and an internal control system (implemented by the inter professional association), coupled with an external control from a certification body accredited to the ISO 65 standard.
